Obituary for Bonita "Bonnie" A. Crider (Martin)

Bonita "Bonnie" A. Crider (Martin)
Bonita A. “Bonnie” Crider, 78, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Saturday, April 22, 2017, at her home, after a brief battle with cancer.

She was born on January 3, 1939, in Chambersburg, the first New Year Baby recognized by the merchants of Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Orville R. and Mildred L. Foltz Martin. Bonnie was a 1956 graduate of Shippensburg High School and married Jacob G. “Jake” Crider on April 27, 1958, at the Shippensburg Church of the Brethren.

Bonnie had been employed at the former G.C. Murphy’s, the Beistle Company, Shippensburg Head Start, and also Shippensburg University, but was probably best known for owning and operating Crider Meats, Inc., with her husband, since its inception in 1977.

She was a Cub Scout Den Mother when her sons were young. Loved to bake at home and go shopping, mainly to pass the time and socialize, because she knew just about everyone else who was at the store. Bonnie could always be found in attendance at her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s events. She was a life- long member of the Shippensburg Church of the Brethren and was active within her Sunday School Class.

Bonnie should be remembered for her strong faith in her religion, growing ever stronger, even more so, but not withstanding, toward the end of her life. Exemplified, she quietly served others who were in need, without seeking any accolades or recognition for her own good deeds. A servant who served many others.

In addition to her husband of fifty-nine years, Jake, Bonnie is survived by her two sons, Jacob Michael Crider and wife Adrianne and Timothy E. Crider, both of Shippensburg, two grandchildren, Jacob Matthew Crider and wife Lisa of Shippensburg and Ann Marie Crider Higgins and husband Corey of York; two great granddaughters, Melanie and Veronica Crider both of Shippensburg; four siblings, Orville M. Martin, Sandy Santos, Barbara Martin, and David M. Martin.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Beam.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at the Shippensburg Church of the Brethren. Pastor Brian Markle will officiate. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hall Cemetery. Viewing will be two hours prior to the service on Wednesday morning at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bonnie Crider Scholarship Fund c/o: Good Shepherd Pre-School at the Shippensburg Church of the Brethren 253 East Garfield Street Shippensburg, PA 17257.
