Obituary for William H. Cressler

William H. Cressler, 85, of Shippensburg, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2022.

He was born Thursday, August 26, 1937 in Shippensburg, PA. William was a son of the late Frank S. and Anna Mary Brinkerhoff Cressler.

Bill was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Shippensburg and attended the King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg. He graduated in 1956 from the Valley Forge Military Academy. In 1960, while attending Tusculum College in Greeneville, TN, his father passed away. Bill had to leave college to run the family business, Cressler’s Fruit Market. Under his leadership, the business grew to four grocery stores in three states and a convenience store, until the sale of the business in 1998 to Weis Markets. He was a past president and member of the Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce, past president and member of the Shippensburg Athletic Association, a member of the Cumberland Valley Hose Company, Shippensburg, member of the Cumberland Valley Lodge # 315, F&AM, Shippensburg, and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon Valley Forest # 145. He was a member of the Nittany Lion Club for 43 years. As a lifelong resident of Shippensburg, Bill loved his town and the people in it, and was eager to give back at every opportunity. Bill will be missed by his beloved dog, Howie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Hovis Cressler, who passed away March 19, 2007. His brother, Frank A. Cressler, is also deceased.

Bill is survived by one son, William H. Cressler, II and his wife Jaime; two daughters, Carla C. Lynch and her husband Thomas, Jr., and Angela C. Kuhn and her husband Trenton, all of Shippensburg; and five grandchildren, Emily Rickman and her husband Christopher of Shippensburg, Shae Yacobucci and her husband Nicholas of Willow Street, Madeline Kuhn, Brady Kuhn and his wife Kaylee, and Thomas Lynch III, all of Shippensburg.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 12 noon in the King Street United Brethren Church, 162 East King St., CHAMBERSBURG. Officiating will be Pastor Ron Cook and Pastor Bruce Levy. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 5-8 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., 112 West King St., SHIPPENSBURG. There will be no viewing or visitation the day of the service.
