Obituary for Vera (Barton) Koser

Vera (Barton) Koser, 92, of Chambersburg, passed from this life to her eternal home with her Lord and Savior on April 19, 2021. Vera was a 23-year resident at the Chambers Pointe campus of Menno Haven retirement community, and previously lived in Shippensburg. She grew up in Crystal Springs, PA.

Vera is survived by John, her loving husband of 75 years, and three sons: Gary (Jane) of Fayetteville, PA; Alan (Kimberly) of Upper St Clair, PA; and Mark (Cindy) who is overseas. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Tracy (Lance) Walker of Chambersburg; John Tyler (Tina) Koser of Phoenix, AZ; Allison Koser of Gibsonia, PA; Rebecca (Joshua) Eisenhardt of Winter Garden, FL; and Joshua Koser who is overseas. She is also survived by great grandchildren Darra, Nathan, Kierran, Jack and Charlotte, as well as sisters Marjorie Palmer and Faye (Walter) Hann, both of Chambersburg, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Vera was born June 10, 1928 in Crystal Springs, PA to the late Ross and Marden Barton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy, brothers Robert and Clyde, and one grandson. Vera graduated from the Warfordsburg High School in Fulton County and moved to Chambersburg, where she worked at the Penn Hall Junior College and Preparatory School for Girls until her marriage to John in 1945.

Vera was an active church member in various capacities during her life in the Church of God in Shippensburg and Greenvillage. She also served in various volunteer capacities during her residence at Chambers Pointe. Vera was an expert seamstress and worked at L’Aiglon Dress Co and other clothing factories in Shippensburg over many years while raising her family. Vera also provided child care for many children over the years. She enjoyed making afghans for friends and family, and in recent years crocheted hundreds of children’s’ hats and scarves for Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas Child. She was always ready to go for long walks and liked working in her garden.

Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family; interment will be at Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Shippensburg PA.
