Obituary for Steven Douglas "Steve" Carroll Sr.
Steven Douglas Carroll, Sr., 65, of Shippensburg, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 2, 2022.
Born Friday, August 3, 1956 in Chambersburg, he was a son of Lyla Ethel Ludwig Gipe and the late Marlin J. Carroll.
Steve served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was formerly employed at Letterkenny Army Depot until his transfer to New Cumberland Army Depot where he retired from after 27 years of service. He was presently employed at CFJMA in Shippensburg as an inspector with 19 years of service. Steve was a member of the Hub City Club, he was a post member and past post Commander of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, both in Shippensburg, and the Landis-McCleaf Marine Corps League, Chambersburg.
Steve enjoyed dirt track racing, throwing horseshoes, hunting, fishing, bowling, and camping. He also loved playing softball and threw darts in the local dart league.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Steven D. Carroll, Jr., Shippensburg, and Bryan P. (wife Kristi) Carroll, Greencastle; one daughter, Destini L. Carroll, Shippensburg; two grandsons, Brenton I. Carroll and Mason J. Carroll, both of Greencastle; one granddaughter, Madyson Florentine, Greencastle; three sisters, Salinda Varner, Shippensburg, Lynn Carroll Hughes, Mechanicsburg, and Wendy Carroll Whiteside, Philadelphia; one brother, Gregory Carroll, Orrstown; two step brothers, Michael Gipe, and Charles Gipe, both of Spring Run; one step sister, Victoria Gipe Schuckman, Fort Wayne IN; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his step father, Guy L. Gipe.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 8, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc. with Pastor Bruce Levy officiating. Burial will be private. A viewing will be held Friday, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Military Honors will be held immediately following the service in the funeral home parking lot, conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223 Minutemen.
