Obituary for Stanley R. Runk Sr.

Stanley R. Runk, Sr., 79, of Roxbury departed this life on Thursday, February 17, 2023, at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital.

He was born on April 21, 1943, in Willow Hill, a son of the late Clair and Dorothy (Neil) Runk. Stanley married Wilma Miller on August 18, 1960 in New Jersey.

Stanley owned and operated his own construction business for over forty years. After retiring from business, he started driving for many families in the local Amish community.

Stanley enjoyed hanging out with the guys at Gimpy’s Auto Repair in Roxbury and going for breakfast with friends at Rachel’s and The Greyhound. He was a longtime fan of the New York Yankees and Green Bay Packers. In younger years Stanley liked to play softball, go golfing, and hunt. Most importantly, he always took pride in being a family man, and loved spending as much time as he could with his large family.

In addition to his wife of sixty-two years, Wilma, he is survived by four children, Margaret Sites of Roxbury, Richard Runk and wife Dee of Chambersburg, Shannon Runk of Willow Hill, and Valerie Adams and husband Bruce, (who Stanley always referred to as “my little buddy”), of Roxbury; seven grandchildren, Danielle Kessler, Ashley Sites, Brandon Runk, Ryan Runk, Holly Runk, Autumn Baer, and Kyle Runk; twelve great grandchildren; five siblings, Robert Runk, Alvin Runk, Flo Appleby, Betty Martin, and Doris Cohenour; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by six siblings, Guy Runk, Ruth Hockenberry, Vonnie Neil, Walter Runk, Ira Runk, and Janet Alexander.

There will be no public viewing, visitation, or funeral service at this time. However, Stanley’s family is planning to have a memorial service / celebration of his life in the month of April.
