Obituary for Sheila A. Griffith (Ryan)

Sheila A. (Ryan) Griffith, 55, Blain, PA; formerly of Bath, NY and LaBelle, FL; passed away peacefully in her home the evening of Saturday, March 12, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Sheila was born May 5, 1966 in Urbana, NY to David Ryan and Jo Deane (Morrell) Jennings. She was a graduate of the 1985 class of the Haverling Area School District.

In her early years, she called Florida home. There she created memories and everlasting friendships that were known to her as family. After many years, she and her daughters relocated to Pennsylvania, where she enjoyed working as a notary and title clerk until her health declined.

In 2007, Sheila fell in love with her lifelong companion, Philip (Fudge) Wallace. Together they have enjoyed their flowers beds, hummingbirds, and other ‘critters’ around their home. Most of all, they enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and family. Sheila will be remembered for many things, but if there is one thing that could be said for her, it would be that she was always a mom first, a friend second. “I’m not your friend, I’m your mom” is a line that, to many, will stay in mind for the rest of their lives. Sheila may have only given birth to two daughters, but she had many children in her heart. She loved with all she had, always being a mom to anyone who needed one throughout her life. She was a mentor, grandmother, confidant, and so much more. Her love and compassion never faltered for anyone in need. She added to her family as she walked through life, picking up what she called her ‘strays’ along the way.

She is survived by her long-time companion, Philip; daughters, Jody Ryan and Casey (Wilbur) Coy; grandchildren, Kylie, Cody, Lily, David, Caleb, and Callie; siblings, David, Darryl, and Dennis Ryan, Sonja (Jennings) Walker, Charles, Larry, and Cindy Booth, Lori Yarka, Kristy Tarbox, Laurette Ditzler, Mindy Mercer, and Trena Jennings; many nieces and nephews; several close friends; and many others who knew her as “Mama” or “Gram.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jo Deane (Morrell) Jennings, and David and Jane Ryan.

We would like to thank Amedisys Hospice Care for all their care, compassion, comfort, and guidance during this time. The nurses were a blessing, and their kindness will not be forgotten.

A celebration of Sheila’s life will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at the Blain Picnic Grounds, 532 Picnic Grove Rd., Blain, PA 17006. Pastor Bradley Bennett of Three Springs Church of the Brethren will be officiating. At Sheila’s request, a potluck (bbq foods) style meal will take place after the service. All who attend are welcome to bring a side dish to pass.
