Obituary for Robert Ray Jacobs

Robert Ray Jacobs, 75, of York, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on the afternoon of Sunday, January 8, 2023.

He was born on April 30, 1947, in Shippensburg, the son of the late Dr. Harry G. and Jean (Burkhart) Jacobs. He was also the stepson of the late Dorothy R. (Righter) Jacobs. Bob was a 1965 graduate of Shippensburg Area High School (where his father was his high school principal) and a 1969 graduate of Pennsylvania State University. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving in Pensacola, FL, during the summers of 1965 to 1968, officially commissioned on September 11, 1969, and honorably discharged on September 11, 1975. Concurrently, Bob was also able to obtain his private pilot’s license on April 24, 1968.

Bob worked as a mechanical engineer for Borg-Warner Corp., Graham Engineering, and Rockwell Corp. He retired from Precision Custom Components in 2008, as Vice President of Business Development, after which he enrolled in Seminary and became a local pastor serving Bethany Felton United Methodist Church for three years.

Bob loved spending time at Rehoboth Beach, enjoying nature and reading. He particularly loved spending time with his five grandchildren. Bob was a member of Aldersgate Church in York for forty-nine years, teaching Sunday School and Disciple Bible Study. He was also a member of the Red Lion Lodge #649 F. & A.M., for forty-five years, completing his 32nd degree in 2001.

Bob is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years, Cathy A. (Hoffman) Jacobs; three children, Scott Jacobs and fiance’ Betsy of North Ferrisburgh, VT, Dr. Heather Tedesco and husband Joseph of McLean, VA, and Lisa Buer and husband Justin of York; five grandchildren, Sophie, William, and Henry Tedesco, Maya Jacobs, and Jacob Buer; and many colleagues and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Aldersgate Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York, PA 17403. Pastor Patricia Bollinger will officiate. Interment with military honors will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., in the Mt. Rose Cemetery, York. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday morning at the church, concluding with Masonic Rites at 10:45 a.m. A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall during the time period between the conclusion of Bob’s funeral service and interment at Mt. Rose.
