Obituary for Richard L. "Dick" Halter

Richard L. “Dick” Halter, Sr., 78, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the afternoon of Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital, with his granddaughter Ashley and her family by his side.

He was born on June 29, 1944, a son of the late Raymond J. and Doris L. (Frohm) Halter.

Dick worked as a truck driver for most of his life. In younger years, he hauled milk. He then drove for Giant Food Stores, LLC., and also worked as a yard jockey toward the latter part of his career. Dick was a member of the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168 and the Loyal Order of Moose #2500, both of Shippensburg.

In his free time he enjoyed watching NASCAR, tractor pulls at the Shippensburg fairgrounds, and professional wrestling. At home, Dick was always messing around in his shed, looking for projects and things to work on. He enjoyed working around his home, doing yardwork, and gardening. Dick also liked to go line dancing and to flea markets with his late wife Bonnie. He loved his cat Leroy.

He is survived by two estranged children; his granddaughter whom he raised, Ashley D. Poling and husband Doug of New Wilmington, PA; four great grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents and spouse of twenty-six years, Bonnie, Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Rodney Halter.

The Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg, has been entrusted with his funeral arrangements. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, April 7, 2023, at the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. There will be no public viewing or visitation.
