Obituary for Raymond J. "Ray" Kress

Raymond J. “Ray” Kress, 80, of Shippensburg, passed away the morning of Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was born on July 24, 1942 in Beach, North Dakota, a son of the late Frank and Frances (Thill) Kress.

Ray was a 1960 graduate of Beach High School in North Dakota. In 1980, he started the partnership of Kress-McConnell Apartments for student rentals. Ray was a skillful and proficient carpenter, who loved woodworking, woodcarving, and working on his antique tractors and cars. He was a member of a woodcarvers club in Scotland, PA, member of Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, and was a United States Air Force Veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bonnie K. (Cressler) Kress of Shippensburg; two sons, Kevin (Dasha Gelbach) Kress of Harrisburg, PA and Jason (Amber Nozzi) Kress of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Chris) Clouser, Shelby (Ryan) Riggleman, Rachel Kress, and Andrew Kress; two great-grandchildren, Maddie and Willow Clouser; three brothers, Dennis Kress of Linton, ND, Deryl Kress of Tijeras, NM, and Dana Kress of Elmsford, NY; and two sisters, Norita Kress of Bismarck, ND and Kerry Ann Mischel of Andover, MN.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn Burkardsmeier.

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, Shippensburg. Father Benjamin J. Dunkelberger will officiate. A time of visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, 305 N. Prince St., Shippensburg, PA 17257.
