Obituary for Phyllis Elaine Bender

Phyllis Elaine Bender, 83, of Chambersburg, departed this life on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at her home.

She was born on June 10, 1939, in Chambersburg, the daughter of the late Glenn R. and E. Elaine (Gardner) Miller.

Phyllis had a long and extensive real estate career in the Chambersburg area. She first started at the former Smith & Manning Real Estate, and then Barbara Manning Real Estate. Eventually Phyllis moved on to ERA Garman Real Estate and then ReMax, where she worked for many years. Lastly, she worked for Keller Williams, where she was still currently licensed as a realtor. Phyllis also worked for a period of time as a librarian for the Franklin County Library System and also at the former Scotland School for Veteran’s Children.

She was a member of the Chambersburg Business & Professional Women’s Club, the American Business Women’s Association, and was a 4-H leader in her younger years. Phyllis loved horses and owned several throughout her life. Much of her free time was spent riding horses and enjoying travel.

Phyllis is survived by three children, Ronda Rotz and husband Joel of Mechanicsburg, Pamela Bender-Brown and husband Charles of Chambersburg, and Todd Bender and wife Sandy of Upper Strasburg; four grandchildren, Kristen Rotz and husband Scott, Shelley Haleta and husband Viktor, Zachary Rotz, and Greg Bender; two step-granddaughters, Tiffany Purcell and husband Jeffrey and Brandi Newman and husband Nelson; her brother, Glenn Miller; and her ex-husband with whom she remained friends, Ronald Bender.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. John Melhorn will officiate. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hall Cemetery. Viewing will be Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
