Obituary for Patricia R. Mason (Worthington)

Patricia Worthington Mason, 84, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Thursday, December 8, 2022, at her home.

She was born on September 24, 1938, in Pawtucket, RI, a daughter of the late Howard and Margaret (Nickson) Worthington. Pat graduated from West Pawtucket High School and from Bryant College in Providence, RI.

Pat worked in a variety of business and industrial firms as an executive secretary. She served as secretary of the Shippensburg United Way for fourteen years and also served as secretary in the Criminal Justice Department at Shippensburg University.

Pat was a member of the Shippensburg University Faculty Wives Club and the Red Hat Society. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Chambersburg. Pat also served as a volunteer in a variety of civil, religious, and cultural organizations.

In addition to her husband of sixty years, Albert A. Mason, Jr., she is survived by five children, Craig Mason of Franklin, TN, Cynthia Beck of Minersville, Susan Sturr of Round Rock, TX, Amanda Ridgway of Shippensburg, and Lori Keith of Bear, DE; twelve grandchildren; two sisters, Gail Freeman of Norton MA, and Debra Gilleran of Gulf Breeze, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Matigan.

The Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg, has been entrusted with Pat’s funeral arrangements. A private memorial service will be held in the chapel of the St. Paul United Methodist Church. There will be no public viewing, visitation, or funeral service. Pat will be laid to rest in the Middle Spring Cemetery, Shippensburg.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Albert A. Mason, Sr. Journalism Award at the Shippensburg University Foundation.
