Obituary for Norma Jeanne Jumper

Norma Jeanne Jumper, 74, a resident of Forest Park, Carlisle, formerly of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Friday, December 25, 2020.

She was born on July 28, 1946, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Lester and Ruth (Stake) Jumper and was a 1964 graduate of Shippensburg Area High School.

Norma devoted her life to making the lives of those around her better and brighter. Her life’s calling was a caretaker, often putting the needs of others above her own. She had a knack for making people look better, whether that was using her cosmetology skills, or selling Avon, or just by doing something special to put a smile on people’s faces. She even spent a few years being a clown and helping to raise the spirits of adults and children who were experiencing challenging life situations. After raising her children, Norma needed a new focus for her gift of taking care of others, so in addition to being a beautician, she worked as a home health aide. Norma was proud of the many Shippensburg Fair ribbons she received in recognition of her homemaking skills, including growing flowers and baking. Her chocolate chiffon cake won her the Grand Champion title on more than one occasion. It is not surprising that Norma loved God, going to church, and singing. The last several years were not kind to this woman who gave so much of herself to others, who worked hard all of her life and who loved being out and about, fully living life. She enjoyed all types of arts and crafts. She loved traveling to many places to see new sights and experiences. The beach, though, was her happy place.

But most of all Norma Jeanne loved her many friends and family - her dad, her mother, her sister and brothers, their spouses, her nieces and nephews and her children and grandchildren. She gave so much to each of them over the years and left them with many happy memories.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan E. Etter of Harrisburg and Stephanie Etter Shenton and husband Christopher of Shippensburg; two sons, Samuel E. Etter and wife Deb of Walnut Bottom and Scott E. Etter of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Wesley Etter and wife Stephanie, Mackenzie Shenton, Isaac Shenton, all of Shippensburg and Lily Etter of Chambersburg; two great grandchildren, Liam and Owen Etter of Shippensburg; one brother, Lester “Ed” Jumper and wife Carol of Orrstown; one sister, Pauline Martin and husband Joe of Shippensburg; sister-in-law Josefina “Pina” Jumper of Newburg; and her nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Jumper and her nephew Curtis Jumper.

Her funeral service will be held at 5:30 on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Jonathan Bream will officiate. Interment will be private. Viewing will be Wednesday evening from 4:30 until 5:30 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital.
