Obituary for Mary I. Vaughn (Barrick)

Mary I. Vaughn, 94, of Shippensburg, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the Chambersburg Hospital, surrounded by her loving husband and children.

Born Wednesday, November 9, 1927 in Newburg, Cumberland County.

Mary was known and loved for the driver of Mister Softee’s Ice Cream Truck which she owned and operated for 24 years. She was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American legion Post # 223 Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Williams Grove Steam Engine Association for 47 years. Mary loved gardening and camping.

She loved and cherished her husband and family, and loved cooking pancakes at the farm every Sunday for 45+ years, and everyone was welcome.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Merle C. Vaughn whom she married June 7, 1947; three daughters, MaryEthel (husband Barry) Cramer, St. Thomas, Cheryl (husband Donald) Bard, Fayetteville, and Karen Cummings, Shippensburg; one son, Keith (companion Wendy Gross) Vaughn, Shippensburg; 12 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren; also surviving is a very special friend from Michigan whom was considered a daughter, Madge Kramer and her husband Ed.

Mary was preceded in death by a son, Merle Edward “Ed” Vaughn; one granddaughter, Angela M. Defenderfer; and one son in-law, Jerry Cummings.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., with the Rev. Dale A. Detweiler officiating. Burial will be in Mongul Cemetery. A viewing will be held Monday, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.
