Mary Jean Burkett, 70, of Newville, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Born Thursday, July 12, 1951 in Carlisle, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Ray and Margaret Elizabeth Rhone Hancock.

Mary was a graduate of the Carlisle Area Senior High School. She attended the Ridge Church of the Brethren.

She is survived by one daughter, Sherry M. Burkett; one son, Nicholas S. Burkett, both of Shippensburg; one sister, Deborah Bonanni, Shippensburg; four brothers, Ernest Hancock, Shippensburg, Charles Hancock, Carlisle, Marlin Hancock, York, and Robert Hancock, Newville; three grandchildren, Caden M. Burkett, Bria A. Burkett, and Madix A. Burkett, all of Shippensburg, she is also survived by her ex-husband, James Burkett, of Shippensburg.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Hancock.

A private memorial service will be held at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc.
Burial will be private.
