Obituary for Mabel E. Mooney (Shoap)

Mabel V. Mooney, 96, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Friday, February 3, 2023, at the Shippensburg Health Care Center.

She was born on December 24, 1926, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Rankin Shoap and Nellie Vannant.

Mabel was a homemaker throughout her life. She was a member of the Prince Street United Brethren Church. In her free time she enjoyed bowling (in younger years), watching game shows, and playing cards. She also enjoyed doing yoga and gardening. Most of all, Mabel absolutely loved spending time around her grandchildren and great grandchildren; and attending their sporting events and dance recitals as often as she could.

Mabel is survived by her daughter, Joyce J. Smith of Shippensburg; three grandchildren, Carl Lehman of Chambersburg, Bruce Perry of Shippensburg, and Gina Shatzer of Shippensburg; five great grandchildren, Brooke Broady of Texas, Braydon Perry of Shippensburg, Taylor Perry of Bethlehem, Matthew Sandoval of Chamberbsurg, and Jonah Lehman of Chambersburg; her sister, Crystal Craig of Shippensburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce E. Mooney, who died on September 5, 2009; a daughter, Gayle N. Lehman, who died on June 16, 2003; grandson, Sam Lehman; and two brothers, Roy and Stauart Shoap.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, February 10, 2023, at the Prince Street United Brethren Church, Shippensburg. Pastor John Shadle will officiate. Interment will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Friday afternoon, at the church.
