Obituary for Loyetta Catherine "Cathy" Crider (Coons)

Loyetta Catherine Coons Crider, 78, of Shippensburg, peacefully entered her Lord’s presence on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Wednesday, March 8, 1944 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Ruth C. Reed Shoemaker.

Cathy was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, church and community.

She was a 1962 graduate of the Shippensburg High School. She was a Seamstress at various clothing factories. She was a member of the Prince Street United Brethren Church, and their Willing Workers Sunday School Class, Helping Hands, Sunday School Teacher, and served on the Mission Commission.

She was a Gold Star Mother, a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Shippensburg.

Catherine is survived by one daughter, Melissa C. (Michael) Watson Hayes, Shippensburg; two grandchildren, Courtney C. (Nicholas) Hayes, Marlboro, NY and Logan M. (Mallory) Hayes, Mercersburg; two great granddaughters, Hayden R. Hayes and Brailey C. Hayes, both of Mercersburg; three sisters, Patricia A. Johnson, Bettylou (Lee) Wickard, Shippensburg, and Diana R. (Jim) Long, Fannettsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a Mom to more and loved by all.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by one son, Jack K. Watson, Jr.; two brothers, Herbert and William Coons; and two sisters, M. Linda Holtry and Brenda L. Shoemaker.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Prince Street United Brethren Church, with Pastor John W. Shadle officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Prince Street United Brethren Church, 17 N. Penn Street, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
