Obituary for Kenneth E. Mowen

Kenneth E. Mowen, 89, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Monday, January 30, 2023, at the Shippensburg Health Care Center.

He was born on April 11, 1933, in Chambersburg, a son of the late Frank R. and Bertha E. (Cramer) Mowen. Ken was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, enlisting on March 31, 1953 and honorably discharged on March 28, 1955.

Ken worked as a concrete mason for most of his life. After retiring from masonry, he managed the former Colony House Furniture Outlet for five years. Ken was a member of the Local Cement Masons and Plasterers Union No. 94, the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, and a life member of the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168.

In his younger years, Ken liked to keep and ride horses. He was always very handy, working around his home. In his free time, Ken enjoyed gardening, hunting, and woodworking.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Joyce Runshaw of Shippensburg; two daughters, Karen E. Johnson and husband Keith of Commerce City, CO, and Lori L. Mason of Chambersburg, and companion Eldon Jackson; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Extended family include, Pam Runshaw of Shippensburg, Rodney Runshaw of Chambersburg, Tina Runshaw of Shippensburg, and Bonnie O’Leary and husband William of Shippensburg.

In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sonya Mowen; six brothers; six sisters; and extended family member, Bradley Runshaw.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, February 10, 2023, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor John Runshaw will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in the Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Friday morning, at the funeral home.
