Obituary for Kathryn Alcesta Jones (Clippinger)
Kathryn Alcesta Clippinger Jones, 86, of St. Thomas and formerly from Shippensburg passed away Monday, March 13, 2023 at home.
She was born Monday, July 27, 1936 in Southampton Township, Cumberland County at the former “Bud” Geesaman farm now known as the Dykeman Mansion on Dykeman Spring Road. She lived there in her early years.
Kathryn was a daughter of the late Donald Earl Clippinger and Martha Pearl Crider Clippinger Stitt and stepdaughter of the late Vernon L. Stitt.
She resided in Chambersburg with her husband, George E. Jones, whom she married February 26, 1956 in Winchester, Virginia. He preceded her in death on June 17, 2001.
Early in her life, she was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher in the children’s department, and sang in the choir. She later attended the Prince Street United Brethren Church with her husband, and lastly was a member of the Green Village Church of God.
Kathryn worked at the former M & M Restaurant and the Sugar Bowl in Shippensburg, early in her life. She also worked at the former Dress Factory as a seamstress and the Beistle Company, Shippensburg. Later after marriage, she worked as a sewing machine operator at the former Stanley Company and the Fulton Knit Company, both in Chambersburg.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, word find puzzles, reading, watching television, and music.
She was a life member of the Charles M. Nitterhouse Post #1599, and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Chambersburg. She was also a member of the Chambersburg Ostomy Support Group, which she helped to start in 1979, and served as different chairpersons, lastly as their president.
Kathryn is survived by one son, Kevin E. Jones and his companion Pamela Tomlin of St. Thomas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Officiating will be The Rev. Matthew Tosten. Burial will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. A viewing will be held Tuesday one hour prior to the services in the funeral home.
