Obituary for Jack E. Porter

Jack E. Porter, 89, of Shippensburg, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Laurel Lakes in Chambersburg.

Born Wednesday, August 30, 1933 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late George D. and Edith M. Holtry Porter.

Jack was a graduate of the Shippensburg High School. He was an owner and operator of the Porter Furniture Store in Shippensburg.

He was a member of the Prince Street United Brethren Church and played on the church’s softball team. Jack was an avid Penn State Football Fan, enjoyed family gatherings, yardwork, taking trips to the beach and Williamsburg, VA and was an avid runner.

He is survived by one daughter, Susan L. (Randall) Shroyer, Newville; two grandsons, Eric W. Jones and Scott M. (Tammy) Shroyer; four great-grandchildren, Erica L. (Fiancé Ben Ile) Jones, Amanda C. Schuster, Danielle Strakonski, and Brady J. Jones, all of Shippensburg; six great-great grandchildren; one brother, Gary (Helen) Porter, Palm City, FL; very close friend, Mary Ann Fogelsonger; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Janice Mary Davis Porter, who passed away on January 26, 2017; two brothers, Galen and Robert Porter; and one sister, Evelyn Perry.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Prince Street United Brethren Church, with Pastor John W. Shadle officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday, in the church.
