Obituary for Gordon L. Westover

Gordon L. Westover, 73, of Shippensburg, passed away the evening of Sunday, March 5, 2023 at the WellSpan York Hospital.

He was born on March 29, 1949 in La Jose, PA, Clearfield County, a son of the late Preston C. and Rosie J. (Miller) Westover. He married Deborah M. (Mahaffey) on December 1, 1973.

Gordon worked for Hepburnia Coal Company, Benjamin Coal Company, and Ventura Foods. Gordon was a United States Navy Veteran, serving on the Franklin Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the American Legion Post #46, Amvets Post #224, both in Chambersburg, and the Coalport Lodge #574 Free & Accepted Masons. Gordon was also a member of the Valley of Altoona and Jaffa Shrine, Altoona.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Deborah M. (Mahaffey) Westover; two sons, Stephen N. Westover of Philadelphia, and Thomas L. Westover of Shippensburg; two granddaughters, Emily E. Westover and Lauren M. Westover, both of Shippensburg; and four siblings, Ronald C. (Sherryetta) Westover of La Jose, PA, Linda K. Miller of Mahaffey, PA, David W. (Debra) Westover of Grampian, PA, and Sharon R. (Robert) Miller of Mahaffey, PA.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Bruce Levy will officiate. Military honors conducted by the Minutemen of the American Legion Post #223 will immediately follow the service at the funeral home. A time of visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
