Obituary for Gary L. Wyrick

Gary L. Wyrick, 81, of Shippensburg, passed away on February 10, 2023 in Leesburg, Florida.

He was born on September 11, 1941 in Shippensburg, a son of the late James M. and Mary E. (Wingert) Wyrick. After graduating from Shippensburg High School in 1960, Gary served in the United States Marine Corps and in 1962 deployed in support of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Following his military service, he became a Shippensburg Borough police officer from 1964 to 1969, followed by a 23-year career as a Pennsylvania State Trooper, retiring in 1992. After retirement, Gary worked as a Sears Loss Prevention Officer and later a Franklin County Deputy Sheriff Officer.

Gary loved to travel both within the United States and internationally, to include Australia, New Zealand, China, Europe, and Africa. He enjoyed motorcycle adventuring, home building and repairs, officiating high school sports for the PIAA, and as a coach in the Shippensburg Midget Football Program. Gary was part of many organizations including, the Fraternal Order of Police, American Association of State Troopers, and Retired State Police Association. Locally, he was a member of the Big Spring Masonic Lodge #361, Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Durff-Kuhn VFW Post #6168, and Shippensburg Jaycees.

He is survived by his wife, Connie R. (Carpenter) Wyrick of Shippensburg; three sons, David (Lisa) Wyrick of Elm Springs, AR, Brad (Sherri) Wyrick of Shippensburg, and Michael (Mandy) Wyrick of Gainesville, FL; one brother, Jay (Loretta) Wyrick; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and his spouse, Jack and Sandy Wyrick.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Matthew Tosten will officiate. Military honors conducted by the Minutemen of the American Legion Post #223 will immediately follow the service at the funeral home.
