Gary Lee Mozingo, Sr., 73, of Newburg, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2021 at the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Sunday, December 28, 1947 in Shippensburg, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late William G. and Mildred M. Bailey Mozingo.

Gary was a United States Army Veteran serving two tours in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division, and retired as 1st Sergeant from the National Guard in 2006. He retired in 2007 from the Shippensburg University working in Computer Operations.

He was a life member of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168 and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223 both in Shippensburg. Gary enjoyed collecting coins and loved and cherished his family.

Gary is survived by one daughter, Shelly M. Porter, Shippensburg; one son, Gary Lee (wife Michele) Mozingo, Jr., Flemington, NJ; four brothers, David Mozingo, Grantville, Paul Mozingo, Palmyra, Ronald Mozingo, Pleasant Hall, and Ralph “Butch” Mozingo, Newburg; two sisters, Delores Unger, Shippensburg, and Suzanne McCoy, Chambersburg; six grandchildren, Zachary Porter, Shenay Porter, Joseph Mozingo, Laryssa Mozingo Caleb and Elijah Mozingo; and two great grandchildren, Gage Porter, Alakai Knight.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria J. “Vickie” Mozingo on April 15, 2013; one son, Richie Lee Mozingo; three brothers; and four sisters.

A private graveside service with Military Honors conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223 Minutemen will be held in Spring Hill Cemetery with Pastor James O. Bolich officiating.

A viewing will be held Friday, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rhodes Grove Camp, 7693 Browns Mill Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202.

Gary was my First Sergeant when I was a company commander in D/ 1-103 Armor PAARNG when it was in Chambersburg PA. He taught me a lot as a young officer. I went on to many great things in the Army, and will remember the hard ( and good ) times when we served together. My condolences to his family. Mike Herbert, US Army Ret

We spent many years together in the National Guard unit in Chambersburg. I last visited with Gary shortly after he was promoted to First Sergeant to wish him all success. My deepest sympathy to the family. Dave Bowman, US Army, Retired

I haven't seen Gary since June of 68,we got drafted together 04-05-68 and went though basic training at Ft. Dix in the same Co..He said he was going Airborne and it looks like he did and did well in the service of the U.S.A.I did get to talk with him this past year as my neighbor served under him in the reserves and gave me his #.I'm glad we made it home.I wish to express my sincere condolences to his Family.Lee Hershey
