Obituary for Elmond "Ray" Bietsch

Elmond “Ray” Bietsch, Jr., 83, of Shippensburg, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2022.

He was born November 28, 1939 in Shippensburg, PA. Ray was a son of the late Elmond R., Sr. and Mildred M. Weaver Bietsch.

Ray retired from Sprint where he was an Outside Facilities Technician. He was a United States Navy veteran serving on the Forrestal. Ray was a member of the Cumberland Valley Lodge #315 F.&A.M., and the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168. He was a 1957 graduate of the Shippensburg High School. Ray was a former coach of the Shippensburg Little League, Midget Football, and Middle School Football.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Swope Bietsch; four children, Susan C. (Bennett) Gaeger of Finksburg, MD, Ryan K. (Shelly) Bietsch of Bridgeton, NJ, Eric W. (Sujeeta) Needy of Annandale, VA, and Sharon Bietsch and her husband David Hall of Mechanicsburg, PA; two sisters, Barbara Reisinger and Virginia Reisinger, both of Shippensburg; six grandchildren, Justin, Carson, Riley, Kory, Jordan, and Caden; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with military honors conducted by the Minutemen of the American Legion will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 10:30 a.m in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens with Pastor Bruce Levy officiating. There will be no public viewing or visitation.

All are welcome to attend a time of fellowship and refreshments immediately following the graveside service at the Newburg Hopewell Volunteer Fire Company, 121 Lovers Lane, Newburg, PA 17240.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
