Obituary for Douglas E. "Doug" Wiser

Douglas E. “Doug” Wiser, 74, of Shippensburg, passed away the morning of Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at his home with his loving wife by his side.

He was born on June 1, 1948 in Newburg, a son of Helen M. (Shearer) Hutchison and the late Carl A. Wiser. Doug married Barbara A. (Altizer) Wiser on July 9, 2002.

Doug was a self-employed truck driver for over 50 years. He was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Minnequa Social Club #375, and lifetime member of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association. Doug enjoyed traveling, especially to Alaska, hunting in Colorado, learning about history, and golfing. Above all else, Doug loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his mother, Helen, and wife of 21 years, Barbara, he is survived by three children, Tammy (Marlin) Laughman of Newville, Todd (Wendy) Wiser of Shippensburg, and Brandon Altizer of Shippensburg; five grandchildren, Stacy, Kraig, Derek, Kayla, and Brenden; five great-grandchildren; four siblings, Stephen (Kim) Wiser of Newville, Conrad (Sue) Wiser of Colorado, Calvin (Judy) Wiser of Newville, and Daniel (Diane) Wiser of Newville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Carl, he was preceded in death by two children, Craig Allen and Keith Douglas Wiser.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. There will be no public viewing, visitation, or service at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date and time.
