Obituary for Donna Lee Shoemaker
Donna Lee Shoemaker, 83, of Shippensburg, peacefully passed away in the quiet early morning hours of Monday, January 25, 2021.
Donna was born on Thursday, February 11, 1937 in Shippensburg, PA. She is the daughter of the late Merle H. and Mary E. (Mowery) Shoemaker. Donna had many fond memories of her parents, as well as times spent with her sister, Carol (Shoemaker) Miller of Shippensburg.
Donna was a devoted mother and so very proud of her four children; Brian (Penny) Mitchell of Lebanon, Lori (Dennis) Odom of Shippensburg, Kevin (Marie) Mitchell of Shippensburg, and Matthew Mitchell of Chambersburg.
Her love and pride extended to her grandchildren as well; Jesse Mitchell, Tara (Odom) Helman, Holly (Mitchell) Sherman, Carrie (Mitchell) Ehrgood, Kyle Odom, Zachary Mitchell, Paige Odom, Tyler Mitchell and Jordan Mitchell.
Donna’s affection was also given to her 11 great-grandchildren, whom she enjoyed seeing and sharing her love of sweets with by guaranteeing that they would receive a piece of candy with every visit to Grandma
Shoe.
Donna’s early life was spent as a devoted mother and homemaker. She later retired from the Beistle Company, after working many years as a secretary. Later in life Donna enjoyed volunteering for both Meals on Wheels and the Chambersburg Hospital.
By far, Donna’s greatest enjoyment, was found surrounded by family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, taking many photos and kept meticulous accounts of her life journey through photo albums and journaling in calendars.
Donna was beautiful on the outside, but her true beauty shined most when she was hosting a family gathering. Her generosity and love for her family was evident through her time spent on the holiday decorations, meals, and perfectly wrapped gifts for her family.
Donna’s life and memory will be celebrated during a private service, just as she requested.
Donna’s family would like to thank the staff at the Orrstown Personal Care Home for the love and care that they provided in the final years of Donna’s life.
