Obituary for David Anthony Ferry
David Anthony Ferry, 73, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Saturday, July 23, 2022, at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born on January 11, 1949, in Chambersburg, a son of the late William Anthony and Ellen Frances (Strittmatter) Ferry. David was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam era, enlisting on September 16, 1968, and honorably discharged on August 16, 1974.
David worked at PPG Industries, Carlisle, for thirty-three years, retiring as a coater operator in January of 2008. He was of the Catholic faith and a member of the Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, Shippensburg.
One of the main interests in David’s life was local history. He was a longtime member and friend of the Shippensburg Historical Society. He was active and instrumental in the finding of the location of Ft. Morris and many of the artifacts were found in his back yard. It gave him great satisfaction helping people research their own family history. In doing so, over the years, he became increasingly involved in the history and preservation of many local cemeteries. David was also an animal lover who was part of a catch and release spay/neuter program for stray cats in the Shippensburg area. He enjoyed traveling with his daughter’s family to vacation on Prince Edward Island in Canada.
David is survived by three children, Michael A. Ferry and wife Shelly of Carlisle, Kimberly Ferry Bynoe and husband Thomas of Freehold, NJ, and Scott A. Ferry and wife Liz of Miami, FL; seven grandchildren, Daniel and Luray Keeseman, Alexis Mellot, Landon Ferry, Lilian Bynoe, and Logan and Connor Ferry; two great grandchildren, Kye Hogue and Avery Mellot; one brother, Stephen A. Ferry of Modesto, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two sisters, Maureen Ferry and Alice Davidson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church. Father Ben Dunkelberger will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., and one hour prior to his service on Thursday afternoon at the church.
