Obituary for Charles Richard (Dick) Weller

C. Richard (Dick) Weller, 78, was born May 29, 1942, in Hopewell Township, Cumberland County, and entered into eternal rest on January 5, 2021, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Dick was the son of the late Erby L. and Helen V. (Chamberlin) Weller. Until entering the Army, Dick worked on the family farm in Newburg and at the Esso Station on the PA Turnpike. He was a 1960 graduate of Shippensburg Area Senior High School and chairperson for their reunion committee.

Dick was an Army veteran during the Vietnam War era stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. Upon returning from active duty, he secured employment in civil service at Letterkenny Army Depot until his retirement in 1994. At that time he chose to work at Charlie’s True Value and Pague and Fegan Hardware Stores in Shippensburg where he enjoyed meeting, greeting, and helping local people.

An active member and elder at the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, he was the Chairperson for Buildings and Grounds and Chairperson for the Middle Spring Cemetery Association. Dick was also active in our Shippensburg Little League, a board member and equipment manager for 25 years. His joy came from the associations with the many young people involved in the sports programs. This included his active role in the Maroon and Grey Club at SHS. He was also involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Even though he kept busy with the above, he took pride in the care of his home and property and stayed involved with the activities of his three children and two grandchildren.

Dick is survived by his wife of 56+ years, Shirley A. (Mason) Weller. They married August 8, 1964. Also surviving are his daughter, Wenda L. (Jeff) Newhouse, of Kalamazoo, MI., sons, C. Richard (Rick) Weller, Jr., of Newburg, PA., and Wes E. (Brenda Martinez) Weller of Laurel, MD., his grandchildren: Ryan C. Dissinger of Tampa, FL., and Celia L. Dissinger of Kalamazoo, MI.

Also surviving are his sister, Joyce E. (Gary) Russell, Shippensburg; brothers, Ken L. (Judy) Weller, Shippensburg, Joe C. (Connie) Weller, Newburg, and Bob (Nancy) Weller, Norfolk, VA., and many cherished nieces, nephews, and valued friends. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his older sister, Anna Mae Cramer, and his younger brother, E. Ray Weller, both of Newburg.

A celebration of life for Dick will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 29, 2021, in the Richwine Pavilion at the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church. The Reverend James R. Richwine will officiate. Interment with military honors will be Friday morning in the Middle Spring Cemetery, and will be private. Visitation will be held on the evening of Friday May 28, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday, at the church.

Please consider memorial donations to the Middle Spring Cemetery Association, c/o Danny Chamberlin, 3636 Maclays Mill Road, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
