Wilbur H. Jones, 94, of Newburg, departed this life on the morning of Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at the WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital.

Wilbur is survived by his daughter, Alyson (Phil) Escobar; his son, Daryl (Bridget) Jones; seven grandchildren, Michael, Stephen, Sarah, Emily, Heather, Erin, and Autumn; ten great grandchildren, Levi, Camden, Jared, Nathan, Uriel, Azriel, Solomon, Trinity, Kai, and Kayden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pleas and Artie (Cothern) Jones; his wife, Grace S. (Stouffer) Jones; and siblings, Fred, Ida, Lela, Johnnie, Dora Lee, Muriel, and Charles.

Wilbur was born in Huntsville, AL, but spent most of his childhood in Fayetteville, TN. While serving in the Army toward the end of WW II, he met his future wife Grace and the two of them settled in Maryland after they married. He spent almost thirty years working in the Ballistic Research Lab on the Aberdeen Proving Ground. Upon his retirement he and Grace settled in Newburg, PA, to be closer to the rest of Grace’s family.

Wilbur enjoyed all kinds of outdoor activities including golfing, gardening, tinkering in his workshop, and baseball. In his later years his favorite activities turned to spending time with family and friends and perhaps catching a “quick” nap with Stella while cheering on his beloved O’s and Volunteers.

Wilbur’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at the Lurgan United Brethren Church. Pastor Edsel Calhoun will officiate. Interment will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Viewing will be at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again, one hour prior to the service on Thursday morning at the church.
