Obituary for Dorothy Coy (Upperman)

Dorothy  Coy (Upperman)
Dorothy Coy passed on January 21, 2022, at the age of 102. She was a Shippensburg, PA resident for over 80 years. She moved from her residence in Shippensburg to Menno Haven in Chambersburg, PA, at the age of 99, and then to Nocatee, Florida, at the age of 101 where she resided at Starling of Nocatee.

Born June 27, 1919, she was the daughter of Oliver P. And Elizabeth Martin Upperman of the Chambersburg area.

Mrs. Coy is survived by one son, Larry L. Coy (Janet) Fort Mill, SC; three grandsons, Christopher H. Coy (Traci) Grapevine, TX, Andrew W. Coy (Jennifer) Lincolnton, NC, and Matthew L. Coy (Jennifer) Ponte Vedra, FL; twelve great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, JoAnne R. Coy, Shippensburg, PA. Mrs. Coy was from a family of ten siblings with one surviving being Richard R. Upperman of Jacksonville, FL. She was predeceased by eight of her siblings, her husband, Wayne A. Coy who passed on January 30, 1990, and one son, Jeffrey W. Coy (JoAnne) who passed on June 4, 2018.

She retired from Shippensburg School District in 1995 after 30 years of service. Previously, she and her husband operated the M&N Restaurant for 18 years on Lurgan Avenue in Shippensburg where the fire station presently resides. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church for over 75 years where she and her children were baptized by Pastor John Sammel. She was a member of Martha Custis Chapter #342, Order of the Eastern Star.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Memorial Lutheran Church, 34 East Orange Street, Shippensburg . The Rev. Dr. Christopher Suehr will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
