Obituary for Bermeda L. Jones (Clever)

Bermeda L. Jones, 98, lifelong resident of Shippensburg, departed this life on the evening of Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born on August 13, 1924, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Charles and Blanche (Dyarman) Clever. Bermeda married Chester B. Jones, Sr., on August 10, 1940, in West Virginia. He preceded her in death on December 6, 2014.

Bermeda worked in housekeeping at Shippensburg University for several years. However, she was primarily a homemaker all throughout her life. Bermeda was a life member of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post #6168 Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Prince Street United Brethren Church which she attended since she was three years old. As a church choir member for many, many years, she loved to sing and had a beautiful voice.

In her free time, Bermeda liked jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, and playing BINGO, which she was really very good at. She was an excellent baker and was well known for her coconut cream pies. Bermeda was also known for being very stylish and well dressed. In warmer months, she could frequently be found sitting on her porch enjoying being outside, and socializing with folks in her neighborhood.

She is survived by her daughter Brenda L. Pellow and husband Randy of Shippensburg; six grandchildren, Kimberly Bard and husband Rick, Gregory Reed and wife Donna, Eric Reed and wife Marlyn, and Jeremy Reed, all of Shippensburg, Brian Jones and wife Sue, and Pamela Anderson-Smith and husband Brad, both of Michigan; nine great grandchildren, Michael D’Ambrosio of Harrisburg, Angela D’Ambrosio of Philadelphia, Ryan Jones and wife Stephanie and Megan Hoffman and husband Michael, both of Michigan, Eric Reed of Ft. Carson, CO., Samia, Patrick, and Ryan Reed, all of Shippensburg, and Vincent Reed and wife Kelly of Chambersburg; four great great grandchildren, Joseph and Sophia Jones and Trevor William and Ava Marie Hoffman, all of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bermeda was preceded in death by an infant son, Gary Wayne Jones; son, Chester B. Jones, Jr.; and six siblings.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor John Shadle will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday morning at the funeral home.
