Obituary for Arthur P. Shimkanon
Arthur P. Shimkanon, 85, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the evening of Friday, January 7, 2022.
He was born on September 1, 1936, in Allentown, a son of the late Paul Shimkanon and Thelma V. (Helm) Cassidy. Art married Margaret E. “Maggie” Rebok on July 2, 1965, in Shippensburg. She preceded him in death on October 22, 2018.
Art worked as a machinist for the former SKF Co., Shippensburg, for twenty five years until its closing. For fifteen of those years, he also worked for the former Richardson’s Paint and Tile.
Art loved to keep busy around the house, so you could always find him tinkering around, building or fixing something or other. This was something that Art enjoyed doing with both of his sons as well. He also loved caring for his dogs and his garden. Art enjoyed hunting, hiking, boating, cars, and was a very avid reader.
Art is survived by two sons, Arthur P. Shimkanon, Jr., and wife Pansy and Brian M. Shimkanon and wife Denise, both of Shippensburg; his granddaughter, Felicia M. Shimkanon; his great granddaughter, Layla Nicole; and his sister, Marie Laybourn of Boca Raton, FL.
In addition to his parents and his wife of fifty-three years, Art was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry H. Cassidy.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, January 14, 2022, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Interment will follow in the Cleversburg Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Friday afternoon at the funeral home.
